(click on the photo to get a bigger view) A period of fine weather after the heavy rain has seen our course gradually recovering although there is still areas of marked GUR that require a compulsory drop. Preferred lies on the cut portions of the course are still in place and will be lifted as soon as our course super recommends. The mowing of the rough was necessarily deferred because of the course condition but it will be mowed before Monday. The Ladies Week of Golf commences on Monday and due to this the men's competition on Wednesday will be a shot-gun start at 12:15pm. There will be over a hundred ladies competing in this area competition. It will be a pleasure to showcase our course and to them we extend a warm welcome. Coming Events

The Mixed Foursomes Championships - 36 holes stroke. first round 14th March 2010, 2nd round 21st March 2010. until next week 'Good golfing' David Stanley - Club Captain During Wednesday's competition Pascal Timores scored a Hole in One. Using a 9 iron to the elevated green 129 metres away Pascal watched as his ball bounced twice on the green and disappeared. "I knew it was in the hole" " I could see it from the tee". ' Magnifique ! ' Can I use my putter, hand, cap or towel to remove loss impediments ?
Answer to last weeks question. Whether the ball is cleaned is a question of fact. The action of putting the ball nito a pocket can result in the ball being cleaned and any doubt should be resolved against the player. In both match and stroke play, the player would incur a 1 stroke penalty if it were considered that he has cleaned his ball. competition - 3 person stableford 76 players in the field CCR 68. The player is asked to lift his ball because it is interfering with the play of a fellow competitor (rule 22-2) and puts it in his pocket. Is he deemed to have cleaned it ?
Answer to last weeks question. No. Up to a maximum of three people can replace a ball depending on circumstances. That is the player, his partner or the person that lifted it. See rule 20-3a. Great score in Wednesday's competition - 49 points - Bob Kemp and Bill Pope winners.
Fellow Members, another week of rain has left our course in a waterlogged condition making it necessary to have preferred lies 'through the green' which will be in place until the course dries out. A little more rain is forecast and then 'they' are predicting that we will have fine weather. A new addition to our course machinery is the greens roller. This machine was purchased at the same time as the replacement mowers. The benefits of having a greens roller are:- The greens present a much truer surface. Our greens, without rolling, have a surface with small irregularities. The roller 'presses' down these irregularities so that the ball runs 'truer' so that a good putt is rewarded with a good result. Another major benefit is that there is one less cut per week. Why this is important is that every time that the greens are cut they are more susceptible to disease. The addition of the greens roller will lift the our greens to a level that members have not experienced here before. A less obvious benefit is that having the roller allows a significant time saving per week for our green staff.
