It is expected that he will be in Prince of Wales Hospital in Randwick for about 10 days before he returns home to recuperate. I am sure all members join me in wishing him a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back at the Club as soon as possible. Congratulations to the winners Bill Metcalf, Ralph Polglase & Neville Ridge with a score of 70 nett 62 - full results below. In uploading to the results site, scores have been strangely rounded up/down - gross scores and nett finishing order are correct, both handicap and nett fractions are not exact - as this is an upload through our computer software, it is not as easy as just typing out correct scores - we will investigate.

This weeks question; A player hits his ball into some long grass and is unable to find it. May he drop a ball in the area where he thinks his original ball is lost?
Answer to last weeks question; No. Objects defining out of bounds, such as walls, fences, stakes and railings are considered fixed and are therefore not obstructions. Rule 27. Fellow Members, The first frosts of the season are making their presence felt, which will mean the greens may not be in a condition to cut on some mornings of competition play. On these days when frosts are forecast will be cut and rolled when applicable the afternoon before. Last Wednesdays 2BBB Stableford produced a hot field of 74 players with 48 points being the winning score on a count back. If your teams score was less than 44 you missed out. The Lord High executioner is watching. Now the pro shop has moved back to it's original position this is the sign that everyone sees on entering the course. It shows the competition of the day and course conditions. Our clubs requirements for visitors to play the course is also listed. There are duplicate signs at all course access paths Winter is just around the corner and the Autumn colours are fading fast. Pictured are some season colours surrounding the 11th green. Bring a guest and make the most of your beautiful course. It's the best way to attract new members. We had our annual visit from the members of the ROYAL prince Edward Yacht Club on Saturday to compete for the E S Coles Trophy. Eight teams took part in the match with Bowral regaining the trophy four matches to three with one match tied. The days event was followed by a very enjoyable dinner with Jeff Spender and Ray Clayton manning the BBQ. My thanks to Brian Lamb for organising the day and being MC for the evening. Pictured l to r are Ron Campbell Brian Lamb and RPEYC member Graham " Aunty Jack" Bond who kept all dinner guests entertained with a hilarious array of anecdotes and jokes. We have reciprocal rights with the RPEYC and when in Sydney members are welcome at their club on Lady Martin beach Potts Point. Fellow Members, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your vote of confidence in granting me a second term as your captain. Last year was a steep learning curve for me and I still have a lot to learn, however I feel a lot more comfortable in my position and will do everything I can to make your golfing experience on this beautiful course of ours, enjoyable and challenging for all level of golfers. The refurbishment of the pond on the 13th fairway has commenced under the supervision of David McGinness and includes replacing the sleepers with concrete blocks as shown in the photo, renewing the bridge in front of the green and cleaning out the waterway running across the fairway in front of the green. David expects to be completed before the end of May, weather permitting. To my mind our greens are as good as any I have ever played on, a comment borne out by many of our own and visiting golfers. The roll is true and the speed is maintained at ten on the Stimpmetre. This photo shows Damien our Course Superintendent checking the speed using the stimpmetre, a measurement which is universal to all courses worldwide. We have a wonderful group of volunteers in our "Dads Army" led by Commandant Hamish McFarlan and if it wasn't for this group assisting Damien and his crew your course would not be maintained at the impeccable level we all have become used to. One of the "perks" of being a member of Dad's Army is the regular history safaris of our local area led by by our member and local Historian Ken Farquhar. Ken's knowledge is not only immense and his passion for history is evident. His delivery is insightful and entertaining. Should any of you be inspired to join this group, contact Hamish on <[email protected]>. Coming Events Saturday 22nd May is qualifying round for our Foursomes Championship held in conjunction with the Patrons Trophy. The best eight scratch scores will then play knockout match play, first round by Sunday 13th June, second round by Sunday 4th July and the final, over 36 holes, played ON Sunday 18th July. Teams qualifying must be able to play to the above timetable. Sunday 6th June is the Captain vs Captain event. We need a strong field to defend the trophy won last year by the men's team. Tee times reserved 10.45am to 12.44pm. Sunday 13th July Oxley Plate at Moss Vale. I would like to field as strong a team as possible to bring the plate home where it belongs but hasn't been for some time. A booking sheet will be on the Notice board very soon. In the meantime please diarise this date |
