How we are travelling. The Club's fortunes are turning around and this is due to you, the members, supporting the changes that are happening. The Phatt Duck's first week of operation was extremely successful. The variation provided in the menu has been welcomed and the old favourites are still available. The dinner on Friday night was sold out in 3 days and the "hatted" (Sydney Morning Herald) chef in the kitchen supervised by the Phatt Duck produced fare of the highest order. For my main course I had the duck (I fancy myself as a duck specialist) and it was superb. We are only at the end of the first week and things are still being refined but the club now makes an excellent lunch alternative - we would expect to see more guests enjoying our club and these guests may well become members. The total people on the course on Saturday was 135 - of those, 62 were members, so it is easy to see the huge contribution the visitors are making to our finances. This Sunday, 95 are booked in, most will play. Not only do they pay green fees, but they also use the club's facilities. I try and get round many or most of the visitors and welcome and ask them how they like it. Without exception they all felt welcome and have enjoyed the course. As I said at the presentation on Saturday, I think we have turned the corner now and looking down the straight. In April we made a profit and for May the figures look very good. All the very best gentlemen, Kevin B. | On the course The drain across the 9th has been completed which should alleviate that mushy patch that has been at the bottom of the path from the tee for a long time. Damian and Rick finished digging out the drains and Ron Campbell is forming a small team to work with him keeping the hazards free of debris and also keeping the hazard markers upright. You will notice that some of the hazard markers are slowly being changed from the wooden ones to a plastic composite. These are much more robust than the wooden ones and so will last considerably longer. The steps going up to the new tee on the 12th will be modified this week so that will make it easier to navigate. Don Barker produced the drawing to convert them to a standard size. The tree on the 11th has been trimmed so that it is possible for all people to hit towards the green. The tree still represents a challenge (I caught it on Saturday) but at least it looks more possible - things grow over time, sometimes changes don't meet with universal acclaim but the idea, for me, is to make golf enjoyable for the majority including our visitors. Bev Kemp-Clayton, with team, has improved the 13th pond dramatically. Thanks, Bev and team. My particular focus is to ensure that golfers enjoy their golf on our course. Particular points for me are to keep the rough trimmed, so we can find our balls easily and also to have the hazard markers all straight up and down and nicely aligned. It is almost like having shiny shoes - it shows we take care. And, lastly, thank you Damian and team for continuing to present us with this wonderful course. It is a wonderful course and great club. |
