My computer is fixed and our new web site is in place so except for extenuating circumstances you can expect my blog to appear on a weekly basis. Your course has never been in better condition and a spell of fine dry weather has allowed members and our visitors alike to take advantage of the excellent playing conditions. Our purchase of a greens roller lifted our greens up a couple of levels so no longer can the greens surface be blamed for missed putts. The J W Draper Foursomes Knockout Final was played on the 11th March with the veterans Bob Constable and Bob Young prevailing over the young guns Ashley Southon and Craig Langby 3 & 2, the fact that Ash and Craig had to spot Bob & Bob 14 shots had nothing to do with the result. Congratulations to the two Bobs for a well deserved win. Our thanks also to Jim Phillips who gave up his Sunday to referee the match. No Doubt you have all read Frank Eggerts excellent report on the Jubilee Cup and I found it very pleasing that the Vardon Trophy, the “Jubilee Cup”, and the best nett score were won by Highlands golfers, respectively Wayne Knapp from the Gibralter Country Club who incidentally was the only player to break par with a 68 and our own Frank Eggert who won the nett event with a 66.
We have a wonderful group of volunteers who undertake a host of duties that help to present the course in it’s current immaculate condition. Both Damien Gair and myself are deeply indebted to these members who give freely of their time and efforts in this regard. However I would ask that before any work is done on the course it is cleared by me and or our course superintendent. We have OH & S regulations we must adhere to and any work done on the course must fit in with Damien and his staff’s tight schedule. It has been brought to my attention that members would like to have more regular mixed/medley events played on available Sundays. The Lady Captain Pam Barker and myself have looked at this and scheduled more events that will be notified to you in the next few days. This month we have welcomed a group of new members including eight sub juniors, six boys and two girls. Alex Nicholson has kindly taken on the position of Cadet Master and along with Tony White, Ashley Southon and James Burkitt will run weekly and school holiday clinics. These youngsters could well be the future of our club and I ask all members to encourage and welcome them into our club as you do with our senior new members. There is an out of bounds book beside the touch screen outside the locker rooms. As an insurance requirement members and visitors must make an entry whenever a ball is hit OB. Coming Events. The annual match against the RPEYC for the E S Coles Trophy is on May15th. The sign on sheet for golf and the dinner is on the notice board. This is an enjoyable event that has been played since the 1950’s and should be well supported. We have reciprocal rights with RPEYC and I am told their dining room and the view is well worth a visit. This Weeks Question. What differentiates a water hazard from a lateral water hazard?
The answer to my previous blogs question is; - Stones are, by definition , loose impediments. Generally, it is not permitted to remove a loose impediment that lies in the same hazard as your ball (Rule 13-4c); however, a Committee can introduce a Local Rule stating that stones in bunkers are movable obstructions (Appendix1, Part B, 5).
