For your information and action please find the 2012 Arthur Brassey Singles Knockout Draw and Conditions; Two in a row, 2011 & 2012 Dennis Cooper accepting last years Jock Rossell Trophy from Bill Metcalf. He will be there again next year to accept the 2012 trophy. His partners - 2011 Peter Watson - 2012 Brian Hanrahan. JOCK ROSSELL TROPHY - 4BBB AGG PAR
Field of 65 players - CCR 68 Winners - Dennis Cooper (21) & Brian Hanrahan (10) square Runners Up - Bob Constable (24) & Alan Lindsay (18) -2 c/b Eagles Nest - Not Won NTP 11th - Not Won NTP 14th - John Cummins Last Score for Balls - David Burgess (16) & Chris Green (17) -5 It was a beautiful day and the course was a lot drier than it has been for some time. With preferred lies through the green the team scoring wasn't what we have come to expect although individually there were two plus fives to Bill Donnelly and Frank Eggert. In all, out of a field of sixty five, only seven broke par with a further five at even par, still it was a good day and a pleasure to play with the sun shining and no wind. Dennis Cooper is becoming a sought after partner with a win two years running, last year with Peter Watson and this year with Brian Hanrahan. individually Dennis (21) was +2 while Brian (10) came in at -2. As John Cummins would say "you're the man Dennis". FEBRUARY 26th SUNDAY WHITEHORSE CUP V ST. GEORGES BASIN at MOUNT GIBRALTER Bowral 5 1/2 defeated St. Georges Basin 1 1/2. Ashley Southon - squared David Boyd - won 2/1 David Burgess - lost 2/1 Chris Green - won 2/1 Alan Turpie - won 4/2 David Mathers - won 2 up Roger Williams - won 2/1 To date the Table is as follows; Pt. Kembla (15 1/2) - 6 Vincentia (13 1/2) - 5 BOWRAL (12 1/2) - 4 Highlands (11 1/2) - 3 Gibralter (11) -2 Shoalhaven Heads (7 1/2) - 2 The Grange (7) - 2 St. Georges Basin (5 1/2) - 0 Don's Party avenged last weeks defeat with a resounding victory over St. Georges Basin 5 1/2 to 1 1/2. From all accounts the teams golf was immaculate from tee to green, well almost. David Burgess in a mind blowing act of selflesness sacrificed his match to fire Chris up to conquer his nerves and go out and blitz his opponent. That's what friends are for. Ashley " Gyro" Southon had some anxious moments but with the aid of Google Maps managed to hang on to square his match after being dormie three. A tree that suddenly appeared in front of Ashley's ball on the 18th no doubt robbed him of a win. We are at home this coming Sunday when we play a local derby against Highlands and the players are hoping for a huge BGC members crowd to cheer them on. David Stanley Single Stableford - Field of 55 players - CCR 68
Winner - Paul Pettiford (13) 37 points Runner Up - Peter Keys (19) 36 points Eagles Nest - Paul Pettiford 4 balls NTP 11th - Michael Abouchabake (vis M/Vale) NTP 14th - Ken Street ( vis M/Gibralter) Last Score for Balls - David McGinnes (17) 32 points Out of 55 players in the field we had 8 visitors leaving only 47 playing members. I realise the course is still waterlogged and very heavy certainly not ideal playing conditions but we have to find a way to encourage more members to play in competition events. Our valiant Whitehorse Cup team take on St. Georges Basin on Sunday morning at the Gibralter course teeing off at 9.54am. As it is a local course any support from members I know would be appreciated. This weeks team is;
Out to atone for the defeat last week one can't help feeling sorry for the St. Georges Basin players facing this group of hardened veterans operating on the "take no prisoners" edict laid down by Captain Don Barker. BE AFRAID - VERY AFRAID! We need more entrants in the Arthur Brassey Knockout Singles Trophy. Entries were to close last Sunday but I have extended this for a few more days. As it stands we would have to have 10 byes to fill the draw sheet which is less than desirable. The entrance sheet is back on the notice board. OVERNIGHT THUNDERSTORMS - HEAVY RAIN - COURSE CLOSED
TODAY'S EVENT WILL NOW BE RESCHEDULED FOE NEXT SATURDAY FEBRUARY 25TH. David Stanley Captain. Single Stableford - Field of 42 Players - CCR 68
Winner - Terry McAuliffe (17) 39 points Runner Up - Robert Eriksson (21) 35 points Eagles Nest - Not Won NTP 11th - Robert Eriksson NTP 14th - Don Barker Last Score for Balls - Don Barker (16) 31 points c/b Wet, wet,wet waterlogged in fact. Thanks to those 42 hardy souls who played. A big thank you to our ground staff for presenting the course in a playable condition, which, under the conditions was no easy feat. Fellow Members, For your information I am listing the major changes by the R&A to the rules commencing from January 2012. WHITEHORSE CUP v VINCENTIA @ HIGHLANDS G.C SUNDAY 12TH FEB.
Paul Pettiford - lost 1 down Ashley Southon - lost 1 down Don Barker - lost 2/1 Bob Kemp - lost 5/4 David Boyd - squared David McGinnes - squared David Burgess - won 3/2 A good effort considering the weather conditions, Vincentia being a coastal club is no doubt used to playing at high tide, something we in the Highlands are not used to. Paul's game illustrates this as he was 2 up when the tide rolled in and he went to 2 down in the space of four holes, you needed a snorkel not an umbrella Paul, and I have no doubt there are similar stories such as this.Captain Don makes the point that two very close matches went against us which tipped the scales in Vincentia's favour. Next week we have a bye. David Stanley. In other matches: Sholhaven Heads 6 def. The Grange 1 Pt. Kembla 6 1/2 def. Sholhaven Heads 1/2 Highlands 5 1/2 def. St. Georges Basin 1 1/2 Point score to date: Pt. Kembla 4 Highlands 3 Vincentia 3 S'haven Heads 2 Bowral 2 The Grange 2 St. Geo. Basin 0 Gibralter 0 Single Stableford - Field of 47 players - CCR 68
Winner - Fred Sewell (19) 40 points Runner Up - John Cummins (17) 37 points Eagles Nest - Not Won NTP 11th - John Jones NTP 14th - Sam Hunt Last Score for Balls - Roger Williams (21) 32 points A small field due no doubt to the weather and the information meeting which started at 6.00pm. Congratulations to Fred for his 40 points scored in fairly trying conditions. |
