A good field today with several of our golfers away, I'm sorry I could not be there. Thank you Don Barker for attending to the presentation of the results for me. I'll be writing some information on how a handicap is calculated - it has been a source of much discussion amongst a few of our members - this will appear in the BGC - NEWS by Monday night (late). I must stress again - please bring up matters of concern directly with me. Without the knowledge of members concerns it is impossible for me to address them.
Handicaps are calculated by the regulations decided on and published by Golf Australia. To quote Bobby Nichols (winner of the 1964 PGA Championship. ) "Nothing goes down slower than a golf handicap." all the best Kevin Saturday's field was 75, bolstered by golfers visiting from Heidelberg Golf Club, in Bowral to celebrate Kevin Kenny's big birthday - 40 years old. I played with Bruce on a handicap on 1 and Pat on 14. Another of the group was Gavan the captain at Heidelberg and he enjoys a handicap of +1, a long way off mine. (Interested golfers can enquire but please comment only with consideration and discretion.) . Heidelberg was Kevin's previous club and Gavan has been Captain there for a time - this is his 2nd term. I've talked to him a fews time in the last year or so and his experiences are informative. Tony Fitzpatrick again won the pro-pin gaining $156 and knocking off the birthday boy.
On another note please address matters on the course and men's golf matters to me. From time to time comment is addressed to others about the course or golf matters and I learn of these second hand. I'm very happy to respond to questions and to explain any point. Sometimes a more complete explanation of a previous point is required and again 'no problem'. What may appear to be obvious to some may not be obvious to all, so I'm happy to expand on any explanation. It may be worthwhile to publish the matters raised and the response given in this blog, it may well be of interest to all. I would be pleased to receive your views about this approach. In the mean time, Good golfing to all. Kevin Bowral members John Mulholland and Keith Markwell both won monthly medal events at other clubs on the weekend. Keith at Moss Vale and John at Mt Broughton.
The previously scheduled Oxley Plate against Moss Vale has been postponed. Their captain advised that many of their members are scheduled to play another event so the numbers of people available ito play the Oxley Plate is insufficient to field a team. Please see the BGC News blog for other golfing news. click here all the best Kevin Today's comp was a single stableford with a good field of 69. With the new handicapping system there is a requirement for the course to be no less than 100 metres from it's measured length. Wednesday's course was shorter than the required length so the comp will not be handicapped. A more complete explanation on this matter will be put in the general news blog by Monday evening The picture above shows how to access the 'BGC - News' blog. American Foursomes this Saturday.
This Saturday coming we play American Foursomes - the format of the game follows. Both players play tee shots at each hole, then play a second stroke with their partner's ball. One ball is then selected and play proceeds as in foursomes with the owner of the ball selected playing the third stroke. The handicap allowance is 3/8 of aggregate stroke handicap for stroke competitions. This is the same handicap allowance as Canadian foursomes. Our golf computer system allows for this handicap calculation and for American Foursomes it uses the Canadian Foursomes handicapping calculation which is identical. Since we have had the computer system this has been the way American Foursomes has been set up on the computer. Good Golfing Kevin The July monthly medal had a field of 68 players. My thanks to Stuart and Don for preparing and presenting the results.
Golfing and course news will be posted on the BGC News blog tomorrow. Click here to go to it. The dates for the semifinals and final of the Foursomes Championships has been changed - please see the note on the draw. all the best Kevin |
