The Dam. Several members have asked why the hoses are running on the 18th. The idea here is to partially empty the dam. We have rain forecast for today and tomorrow and whilst we have no accurate figure, a fall of about 20mm will add about 3 megalitres to the dam (it depends on other factors as well). If the dam is at its full holding or retention capacity, any stormwater coming to the dam from either Kangaloon Road, the ephemeral waterway alongside the Majors or Bowral House, will end up going out the overflow of the dam and if it is of sufficient quantity, flowing on top of the ephemeral waterway that goes from the 15th, 13th & 16th. At the moment these are still under construction and it will be some months before we get a decent coverage of grass to withstand a sustained overflow. For less intense showers, the pipe under the ephemeral waterway can take the water without running on the surface of the waterway. So that is the reason the hoses are on. In the same vein, some members have asked why the sprinklers are on when there has been rain. It can be the case the sprinklers are on to water in fertiliser. Some fertilisers require 4-10 mls of water after their application in order that they are well "watered in".
Our Plantings. So far we have planted the 11th tee, the mound behind the 16th and the mound behind the 7th. The next area are the tees on the 14th which will have camellias planted around both the men's and ladies. This will probably happen during June.
All the best and good golfing,
Kevin
