It is with deep regret I have to advise the passing of Phil Dean earlier this evening. Phil was a highly respected member of Bowral Golf Cllub and was a keen and very good golfer. He often entertained us at functions with his piano playing. Phil will be sadly missed by his wide circle of friends at the club. Our thoughts are with Kerry and her family at this sad time

Winner - Brian Hanrahan (10) 40 points c/b Runner Up - Dennis Cooper (21) 40 points Eagles Nest - Harry Caust - 4 balls NTP 11th - Brian Hanrahan NTP 14th - Dennis Cooper Last score for balls - Chris Green (20) 34 points c/b PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! DO NOT MARK THE GREEN BY CUTTING A "V" INTO THE TURF TO MARK THE POSITION WHEN THE MARKER HAS TO BE MOVED, USE A BALL MARKER! It is hard enough to keep the greens in top condition without willful damage caused by a selfish player. Any player caught damaging a green in this manner may face disqualification under Rule 33-7. Congratulations to John Mulholland (9) BGC Club Champion 2010. Pictured at the Presentation of Trophies Dinner Saturday 19th February 2011 Fellow Members, A successful Presentation of Trophies Dinner was held last Saturday and enjoyed be all who attended. My congratulations to all Trophy winners and look forward to keen competition this year leading up to next years event. I heard yesterday there is a rumour circulating that Dad's Army is to be disbanded and that there is friction between our course superintendent and Hamish McFarlan, Dad's Army revered leader. This is laughable as nothing could be further from the truth. Where these rumours stem from is beyond me and in my view mischievous to the extreme. The work that Dad's Army carries out in co-operation with the ground staff is invaluable to the course presentation and is respected by all members. In fact we are always looking for new recruits. We have had to cancel our Pro v Pro event listed for Sunday, March 6th due to lack of a sponsor. Roger Buckland offered to put in $500 if we could match it with three similar donations. Unfortunately this did't happen. Outside sponsorship remains very tight. Hopefully we willl be able to stage the event next year. As from Wednesday Damian will have a trailer parked near the bucket rack at the first tee filled with a mixture of seed and sand. We ask that players take a bucket filled with this mixture and dress any small bare patches on the fairway. We intend to do a fairway at a time and would appreciate your co-operation. The larger areas will have to be scarified and will leave that to Damian and his crew. While on the subject of the course I repeat the request to repair all divots, your own and others and make sure all pitch marks on the greens are repaired as they occur. Our greens are generally in great shape at the moment, let's keep them that way. PITCH MARKS A fresh ball mark immediately repaired will completely heal in 24 hours If left for only one hour it will take 15 days to recover It omly takes a considerate golfer 5 seconds to repair each pitch mark. We are all aware that our practice facilities are limited but I have to reinforce that practicing off the fairways is not permitted Particularly pitching into the greens. At the holes where the distance over the rough from tee to fairway makes it difficult for our shorter hitters to reach the fairway, we have cut a channel that widens out to a wineglass shape when it reaches the fairway. Pictured is an example on the 13th, COMING EVENTS One for the calendar - We are holding a Club Level Rules Seminar in the club house Tuesday 7th June 2011, two sessions one at 1.30pm and the other at 6.30pm. Qualified Rules personnel attend and run the sessions. There is no cost to the club, the cost per individual is $16.50 which includes the study guide, seminar, exam, certificates, Golf Australia Rules Referee cap, financial status for approximately 18 months. Sitting the exam is not compulsory. We have been the only club in the region selected to hold a seminar this year and would hope there is strong support from our members, male and female. Check the notice board for more details. Sunday 27th Feb.- Hip & Knee Trophy day - Entry Sheet on the notice board. Saturday 5th March - Monthly Medal Sunday 20th March - Autumn Cup - Shotgun start 11.00am Remember the road to success is always under construction Until next week good golfing, David Stanley Captain This Weeks Question;
In the case of a player considered to be guilty of a serious breach etiquette can a committee apply a penalty and if so what is that penalty? Answer to last weeks question; Is a rut made by a tractor considered a hole made by a greenkeeper and thus GUR? If not, should the committee declare such a rut GUR? Answer; Such a rut is not a hole made by a greenkeeper. The Committee would be justified in declaring a deep rut to be ground under repair, but not a shallow indentation made by greenkeeping equipment. Whitehorse Cup - Round 3 - Sunday 20.02.2011
