The single stableford event held today, the 5th day of spring - the temperature was 22 deg . The Winner Doug Ruttan (32) with a score of 42 Runner up Bruce Frankland (25) with a score of 40 Ball winners were Our club has many ex servicemen. The Remembrance Day Shield event, held this year on November 10th, is easily our most patronised event. This week is Legacy Week - Badges are available in the Club. Several club members are also members of Legacy and others are volunteers for Legacy. Caring for the families of incapacitated and deceased veterans Legacy is dedicated to caring for the families of veterans who have died or become incapacitated either on service or subsequently. This extends to veterans who have served in war and on peacekeeping and humanitarian missions. Spring is here

We order the sand for this in a large quantity, sufficient to do the renovations as well as refill the sand bins on the course for a period. This is one of the ways we can save expenses. We have a new clock (donated) installed on the Pro-Shop wall now. Please note the time of completion for your round of golf on the score card - that's the time when you walk off the 18th green. At Bowral tee off times are on schedule the vast majority of the time and there is no problem here. What is very apparent however is that one slow group, for whatever reason, can slow the whole of the following field to their pace. When this happens the following group has to wait along with all those groups behind them- all very wearing. If a group of two is, continually, waiting on a three ball then there is a reason and good etiquette for the group in front to ask the 2 ball group to play through. A good measure of your time is that (in a 4 ball) if you are slower than 2 hours elapsed time at the 10th tee then that's too long. From the results of the times taken so far a 4 ball round of somewhere between 3:50 and 4:10 is 'normal'. One of 4:30 is not. It is very easy to see what group is slowing the field. No one has to hurry but everyone has to keep up. Bob Hutchinson with his cake Long time club member Bob Hutchinson celebrated his birthday at the club on Monday with Gerry Katekar fellow club member and bridge player. Our in house chef, The Phatt Duck (aka Stephen Crooks) provides gratis, a birthday cake slice (with candle). Many years ago Bob and I played in a 2 bbb stableford and Bob scored three '4 pointers'. The pork ribs. Father's Day lunch at the club was very well attended with 71 people, aged from very little to 88 years old. I had the ribs which were (very) delicious (I thought 'delicious' was an 'absolute' and the rules dictate that one cannot qualify an absolute and if so, so be it) however, be that as it may, they were very delicious. Son Simon's partner Johanna along with Wendy had a vegetarian quiche. We completed our meal with Sticky Date Pudding and Rhubarb Crumble. The 15th dam GUR The area just over the 15th dam is now almost finished. Some work is still to be done at the northern end. The area of GUR is now dry and has been seeded - please walk around this area. Once this area of grass has been established we will be able to play from this area and perhaps more importantly find balls easily when they land here. On the weekend the plastic overflow pipe in the 13th dam was broken off by vandals. Once this is repaired the water level will be restored and the 15th dam GUR project will be almost be complete. Further along that waterway we have extended the 150mm plastic pipe to the single bridge on the 16th so another area of mud will be eliminated. The plan is to extend the pipe further under the single bridge of the 16th to the double bridge on the 16th. Once this is done that area of the hazard will be filled and converted to a swale so that drives will not be caught in this area of sometimes water, most often mud. It will also be possible to drive through in a cart without cutting over in front of the 3rd tee. It will be like an ephemeral waterway with a pipe taking the day to day flows underground but the swale taking the storm flows. Dad's Army at the 8th Our Dad's Army volunteers provide terrific assistance to our course staff, headed by Damian. Last Thursday they planted native grasses in an area near the 8th tee. The amount of work that this group of gentlemen got done, was substantial and saved Damian, Nathan & Matthew a large amount of time. A club is a collection of people organised for a common purpose, so BGC is really our club. Volunteers & benefactors help immeasurably in the running of our club. Cleaning the ball washers & towels, weeding the gardens, collecting funds for flags, arranging flowers for functions, providing legal advice, filling envelopes, the handicappers, ladies clinics, are but some of the works performed by volunteers (there are many, many more things that can also be listed). Without these wonderful people our club would not be - every effort is very much appreciated by the considerate membership. I am sure I speak for all of our club - thank you very much. All the very best to all, Below are higher resolution copies of the photos fro download.
