This weeks question;
Here's one that I'm sure most of us have encountered at one time or another! A ball lodges against a dead land crab in a bunker. May the crab be removed without penalty? Last weeks question; A player rotates his ball on the putting green to line up the trademark with the hole. He did not lift the ball, mark it's position or change it's position. Is there a penalty? Answer - Yes one stroke for touching the ball other than as provided for in the Rules (Rule18-2a). Under Rules 16-1b and 20-1, a ball on the putting green may lifted (or touched and rotated) after it's position has been marked. If the player had marked the position of the ball before rotating it, there would have been no penalty. Fellow Members,
Heavy rain last Friday night and early Saturday morning on our alresdy waterlogged course meant we could only cut 9 greens and couldn't allow carts on the course. Knowing this affects a number of our players I made the decision to postpone our Monthly Medal and the Rembrance Day Trophy until this Saturday Nov. 13th. I apologise if this has inconvenienced anyone, however it was decision that had to be made. If the weather holds I would expect to see a large field contest these two special events. COMING EVENTS The countdown has started; Legacy Day - Saturday 20th November - Please do your bookings through the office, you cannot book on line or through the computer terminals. Trudy is waiting for your call. Tuesday 30th November - the Heritage Park Legends Pro-Am. You can still book in to participate in this wonderful event through the office or the Pro Shop. And don't forget the cocktail party being held in the grounds of Heritage Park on Monday evening 6.00 to 7.30pm. There is no charge so come on and satisfy your curiosity and inspect the display home they shall have open or just stroll through their beautiful gardens. Don't miss this one. Did you know that at age 74 Gene Sarazen became the oldest player to complete a British Open? There's hope for us yet well some of us. Until next week good golfing and remember competetive golf is played mainly on a five and a half inch course, the space between your ears. This weeks question;
A player rotates his ball on the putting green to line up the trademark with the hole. He did not lift the ball, mark it's position or change it's position. Is there a penalty? Answer to last weeks question - Is an ant hill a loose impediment? Yes. A player is entitled to move an ant hill under Rule 23-1 The above last weeks question and answer should have been; Question; Is a fallen tree a loose impediment? Answer; If it is still attached to the stump, NO; if it is not attached to the stump YES. Promise I won't miss my medication again! Fellow members STOP PRESS 60 ml of rain overnight has unfortunately closed the course and forced the cancellation of our Melbourne Cup Irish Stableford. However the good news is that the lunch will go ahead. Arrive at noon to get all the latest tips from our inhouse tipsters and lunch will be served 1.00 to 1.30pm. See you there! Staff Membership There appears to be some confusion regarding Staff Membership and their entitlements as full playing members. Due to this and a letter received by the board from a member it was decided that we would return to the "status quo" in allowing all staff playing members to compete in all Trophy events. To clarify the matter once and for all a paper will be put to the AGM to allow the members to vote on the matter. In 2005 the Board passed a resolution allowing all staff members to be elected as full members at a nominal fee excluding voting rights and being able to stand for the board but including being able to play for Trophies and compete in the Club Championships. Club Championships. The following is a report on our Club Championships filed by AAP and picked up by the New York Times and the London Daily Mail; A Grade Quarter-final Frank Eggert (#3) Vs Jim Phillips (#6) On Thursday 28th October 2010 at 8:00am, the A grade quarter-final between the 3rd and 6th placed qualifiers commenced under overcast skies but no wind or rain. The match was very competitive and hard fought but played with plenty of good humour. The first 18 was a “nip & tuck” affair with only five holes halved. Frank slowly built a lead to be 3up after 9 holes through pars on 3, 4, 6, 7 & 9 but by the 15th, Jim had squared the match with great birdies on 12 & 14. Frank closed out the last three holes including a birdie on the 17th to go 3up after 18 holes. The second 18 started at noon and was much more an “arm wrestle” with eight of the thirteen holes halved but the momentum swing towards Frank with his lead extending to 7up after 27 holes through pars on 1, 4, 6 & 8. Jim rallied to win the 28th hole but was still dormie 6 when the 13th hole was halved. Frank won the match – 6&5 and will meet Andrew Shortle (#2) in the semi-finals. Coming Events Saturday 6th November - Monthly Medal and the Remembrance Day Shield. Saturday 20th November - Legacy Day - 2BBB with individual events. Dinner at night.
