The days are getting longer which means more time for golf and warmer weather is on the way. What about the garden I hear Anne say for the umpteenth time, yeah well that too but it really boils down to priorities. Golf, doctors are often quoted as saying is one of the best exercise pursuits one can have and when you have a course such as ours why not use it as much as possible. Socially you don't have to play 18 hole so why not play 9 or 10, 4 or six just get out there.
On a less positive note we are still having trouble with divots not being replaced and pitch marks not being repaired. I know it's a nusience but it only needs everyone to replace an extra divot, and pitch mark and the problem will be partly solved. There is still some rumbling about slow play. PLEASE try to keep up with the group in front and if you can't call the next group through, then everyone will be happy, well nearly everyone. And remember the five minute rule for lost balls. If you think your ball may be lost or out of bounds, play a provisional, the rules allow this. as long as you say you are playing a provisional and identify it it's OK.
There seems to be some confusion regarding a couple of local rules:
UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE the following will apply;
On closely mown areas the player may lift their ball after marking it's position, clean the ball and replace it in it's original position.
A ball embedded in it's own pitch mark in any CLOSELY MOWN AREA through the green. may be lifted and cleaned and dropped, without penalty, as near as possible to the spot where it lay but not nearer the hole. The ball when dropped MUST first strike a part of the course through the green. "Closely mown area" means any area of the course, including paths through the rough, cut to fairway or less.
I have expressed my disappointment at the small fields in our competition rounds
where we have a golf membership of approximately 165 (150 men and 17 ladies) full time and 125 (35 men and 90 ladies) six day members. I understand there are a number of players who have no interest in playing competetively and there are a number who feel their golf is not of a standard good enough to enter the competitions and would be a burden to their playing partners. I wonder how many of these players would respond to an invitation to play on a competition day without pressure. How about we step out of our comfort zone of playing amongst regular partners and invite one of these social players to partner us in a competition round. They may be grateful for the invite and find they are not as bad as they think, enjoy the round and become regular competition players as well as enjoying their social rounds. Think about it!
