PRESIDENT'S TROPHY - KEIGWIN CUP
Saturday 15th June
The oldest trophy of Bowral Golf Club.
The Trophy was presented by T H Keigwine Esq,
the club's first President.
Members may have noticed other work done around the course during the year. The vast majority of the course budget is spent on maintenance of the fairways, tees and greens. During the growing season our ground staff have to spend virtually all of their time in keeping the course up to standard and include renovations of the tees, greens and fairways into the normal schedule of work. Repairing damage to the course after heavy rain, removing trees which have fallen, maintaining and replacing bridges all have to be fitted in also.
Volunteers helping in garden maintenance, emptying rubbish bins, maintaining ball washers, mowing around the club house, spraying weeds, removing paspalum and countless other tasks play a big part in keeping the course up to standard.
Included in the budget for the course is a small amount for course improvement. In the last year new tee markers have be purchased which have removed the hazard of balls striking the tee markers and then hitting players. New ladies tee signs were installed replacing the very old steel 'treasures'. Some open water ways have been converted into ephemeral waterways (15th, 13th, 16th) - the idea here is to make the games more enjoyable for some, to speed up play and also to speed maintenance. New direction signs are being installed so that visitors can find their way around the course (there are maps given to visitors also).
New rubbish bin holders similar to the one shown here (Barwon Heads Golf Club) are planned to replace the existing ones.
Other paving work is underway on the 4th tee. All this must be fitted into the work schedule and budget. Our golf course is beautiful and a pleasure to play on. The standard of the course helps attract visitors - without visitors the P&L would look very sad.
34 claret ash trees will be planted down the side of the 13th/16th and 13th/14th.
These trees are coming from a tree farm, bare rooted and should be planted in the next weeks.
Some golden ash will be planted down the side of the 1st in the coming months. Like the claret ash these will be purchased bare rooted and will be in the size range of 1.5 to 2 metres.
The camellia hedge behind the 8th tee will be extended towards the water fountain.
The mound behind the 16th will have the grasses removed and replaced with comprosmas - evening glow.
The support of members using the club house, in the pro-shop and on the course, coming to functions, entering conpetitons etc all contribute to a successful club - a club that has a tradition dating back to 1901.
good golfing to all
