Our secretary/manager Kevin Kenny plays, when possible, in the Wednesday competition. I have been fortunate to play with him and he shows what is possible on our golf course. Kevin, when he plays, pays the normal comp. fee plus the Pro-Pin entry fee but any winnings, e.g. for the Pro-Pin, he puts on the bar or if there is a ball prize he gives to his fellow competitors - very generous.
Kevin Kenny has sent me photographs on the progress made on the new tee on the 2nd and the removal of the mound on the 18th. The mounds on the 18th trapped water so after some consideration we decided it was best to remove them to allow better drainage. This soil was then used to construct the new 2nd tee. The tee on the 2nd was always miniscule - a small tee area wears very quickly but once the new tee is in operation we will have a much larger area to put the tee markers. With the new handicapping system the course must measure, on any day, within a 100m of the "official" - in our case, 5406m. With the new tee on the 2nd, we will have an area of about 6m behind the plates so we can introduce some variation, having some holes shorter and some longer. From the back of the tee at the 2nd the hole will be very different especially for our A and B Grade golfers.
all the very best
Kevin
