how they’ll impact our club, members and guests
Once the new systems are implemented, the handicap that a player will see at GOLFLink and on his club handicap record will be termed his GA Handicap, and will not necessarily be the handicap that he will play off. Instead the golfer will have a Daily Handicap that will be calculated based on his GA Handicap and the Slope Rating of the course on which he is playing.
A round played off the Blue markers is likely to carry a different handicap than a round played off the White markers, because both sets of markers (courses) will have a differing Slope Rating.
The Daily Handicap is the GA Handicap x (Course Slope Rating/113)
A player with a GA Handicap of 10, playing on a course with a Slope Rating of 125 will have a handicap of:
- 10 x (125/113) =11.06 so Daily Handicap will be 11
- 10 x (90/113) = 7.96 so a Daily Handicap of 8.
Handicaps round up at 0.5 when calculating the Daily Handicap using the formula above.
Golfers will need to know the handicap that they are to play off on the course that they are playing. Similarly, the handicap displayed on their scorecard will need to be correctly calculated of course.
Golf Australia advise that "it will still ultimately be the player's responsibility to play off the correct Daily handicap" However they also note that "there will be an obligation on clubs to assist players as much is practicable with this (Daily Handicap calculation) process."
GCS will display the golfer’s GA Handicap and more prominently the Daily Handicap on the day of play on the player touch screen kiosk(s) to reduce any confusion. We will also perform the necessary calculation to print the correct Daily Handicap onto scorecards."
all the best
