We played in the Bowral Teams Shield event today coordinated by Paul and Leonie Carrol. Donated in 2005 by Neville and ElizabethRidge to foster mixed golf the shield is played as aggregate stableford where teams of 4 select the best men's score and the best ladies score on each hole. This year there were 39 players in the field. The weather wasn't marvellous but the company was great. The winners on the day, announced by Paul, were Uschi and Robert Eriksson together with Alex Dowling and David Mathers with 85 points. The golf was followed by a sausage sizzle with food prepared and provided by Leonie and Paul and Paul, together with 'sausage master' David McGinnes, cooked in the rain and prepared the food for the 'thankful'. A good day. You may have noticed that the water level of the dam was very low today. The forecast coming into the weekend, was for 3 days of (90% chance) rain, 10-20mm. The idea is to run the dam down so that we can catch the maximum amount of 'free' water that we can. During a storm we may get 3-4 megalitres into our dam. Another reason is that we don't want the dam to overflow and wash out our new ephemeral waterway over the 16th. Given a few more weeks there will be enough grass cover in the new ephemeral waterway to withstand lots of water flowing through it, coming from the dam overflow. So the idea is to keep the water level down so we don't have large flows on the still not ready ephemeral waterway. Throughout the day we had steady rain, perhaps 3 or 4 mm. In the morning there were no major branches down on the trees around the course but some time during the afternoon a large branch came off a healthy tree on the southern side of the second hole. Here is the photograph of it. Have a good week,
